Stevio...LA LA Lovin' It?

I'm British-born Chinese from Bristol, UK. I’m LA-based. I’m a hip hop aficionado. After 15 years in London I moved to LA to pursue a new career and outlook on life.

Back in the 80s I was a DJ. In the 90s I contributed to the world's first street style exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum. In 2011, I had my first interviews published. Today, I’m keeping busy with music, art, photos and writing.

Loving this video mash-up...

Kesh Kesh is a 20-year old fashion bird from the Midlands, but living in London. Not sure how I found her on MySpace, but she posted a bulletin on her page with this 60s Mexican dance video and it works so well with the DJ Unk hit - it's hot...see some of those original dance moves Beyonce teef!

Below is the original DJ Unk video for 'Walk It Out'. Which one do you best?

The last word for Bristol....

Don Cameron's Bristol International Balloon Fiesta happened the weekend I headed back to LA. It's world-class! I miss Bristol a bit folks...

I'm back in LA, but I have my blog to remind me of what I'm missing....

13 hours on a plane...
I watched these Bristol YouTubes in the comfort of my apartment in LA on a sunny (need I say it?) Sunday morning following a short nap to recover from my tedious journey back 'home'. The Korean kid who couldn't keep still decided to shift from his aisle seat to the middle-seat...next to me from Washington D.C. to LA.

Not quite what I expected when I signed up to a window-seat in United's Econcomy Plus, but I took 4-hour of crash which helped numb the pain. More good news: the plane landed 15-mins early, but that was all lost after the usual Homeland Security crap and another 1-hour+ wait for baggage. Still, my Lady Pink canvas arrived intact! (Thanks to Nosca for sorting that out...)

More waiting to come
By now it's 1.15am, but I still had another 45-min wait for Prime Time shuttle to f&*k up ('go get a Super Shuttle, sir...'). But, in all truth all these shuttle services are bollocks after midnight. It's like public transport, but without the timetable, rather than a door-to-door service. Let the buyer beware!

London nights out on the town

When in London it's all about the curry.
I met with David and Rachel on Tuesday night and only said "no Mexican, Japanese or Chinese food please..." After all, I get plenty of that in LA. We went to a spot in Marble Arch I'd only ever walked past before. La Portes des Indes is a colonial-style mega restaurant that's part of the Blue Elephant group (nope, never been there either). Not mega like Conran's Mezzo, but more like Rainforest Cafe: tropical, and sprawling on several levels. The food was good, but the table was tiny! All those plates had nowhere to go?! "Anyone seen the paratha?"

Thursdays are the new Wednesdays?
Thursday night I met up with Inkie for a beer or two. We headed to his exhibition at the Notting Hill Arts Club in west London. Ragga Twins were in the house and my old acquaintance Sinden was spinning. He said he's spinning in LA soon....What a small world?! I was meant to meet my cousin (once removed), but in the end she got lost in the mix.

The weekend is here
After work on Friday, I headed over to Covent Garden to catch the Warhol vs. Banksy exhibition. Odd that some of Banksy's work was cut out off of hoardings and sold to collectors who in turn 'lent' these stolen pieces to a gallery?! Ironically, increasing the value again. The art world. Bless 'em!

After a beer and a chinwag with Dex I headed back to Bermondsey to hang out with Steve and Becca, my traveling buddies from Argentina. They were the two folks who persuaded me to ride on a coach for 13-hours north from Buenos Aires to Iguazu, near the Brazilian border. The waterfalls were amazing. These two troopers were also the ones who taught me a drinking game that will remain with me forever ;-)

Saturday was my free day (and last day in the UK). After I discovered the hotel didn't have a pool, I packed and checked out of my hotel and headed over to Shoreditch to meet Nosca to collect my Lady Pink canvas. It was weird walking around there during the day. No party revellers, no shouting, slag girls or dodgy cabbies. The only hint of what kicks off there after dark was the kebab shop with smashed window and the flyposting craziness! I miss east London ;-)

The best of Bristol

This city has changed a lot since I was here briefly last Christmas. Look at the development going on around Bond St./Old Market...on one side is the student housing; on the other is the new shopping complex that will house House of Fraser, Mum says. I think I would've got lost a bit without the Hertz GPS! Unrecognisable!

I was heading to see Nick in Bedminister via my first trip to Workshop, a new street fashion store on Perry Rd from the 50/50 skate shop folks. I had my T-shirt put back after spotting it online...it's a tribute to Beat Street. It's fresh! The guys there are very relaxed and Danny has good contacts in the art world...I mean I hear Shepard 'Obey' Fairey passed through! They support local talent like Apish Angel, so I wish'em well.

"Beminsirrr"
Bedminister has changed too...that large housing development on York Road and North St. is finished. And believe it or not, the pub on Windmill Hill is like a gastropub now with a kiddy-friendly area (yes kids hang out in the pub in England). No racists in sight...well, not publicly anyhow!
