Stevio...LA LA Lovin' It?

I'm British-born Chinese from Bristol, UK. I’m LA-based. I’m a hip hop aficionado. After 15 years in London I moved to LA to pursue a new career and outlook on life.

Back in the 80s I was a DJ. In the 90s I contributed to the world's first street style exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum. In 2011, I had my first interviews published. Today, I’m keeping busy with music, art, photos and writing.

Reminisce, reminisce (about Bristol)

Over the holidays I took a stroll down memory lane when I went with Christian to meet Chris Burton, the author of "Art and Sound." The book documents the '80's DJ scene that blossomed in Bristol, England when I was a teenager and captured my imagination.

After a Jack and Coke to warm us up from the Bristol chill I got my book signed and some pics from my new Nikon D5000 camera which I'd been carrying around religiously. Surprise guest at Chris's home was Krissy Kriss who was interviewed for the book and I hadn't seen for many years! Good times.

The Reunion Party at the Arnolfini on New Year's Eve brought together FBI, UD4, KC Rock and Krissy Kriss. Even the flyer was an old skool design done by Felix (aka FLX)

London greets a weak US dollar

London was hospitable to my weak US dollar so I didn't want to be rude and avoid the stores, but I did manage to restrain myself from entering Uniqlo which is a rare sight in the US since it's only in New York at the moment.

I stumbled upon the cool adidas concept store called No.6 (or #6 in American ;) ) which is only overshadowed by its Berlin-based sister store. Nice! If you're looking for the (Vivenne Westwood rip-off) triple-tongue Jeremy Scott adidas Attitudes this is the spot!

POW - Fiesta Resistance

POW (Pictures on Walls) moved a couple of years back so I took a stroll over to Commercial St., E1 to see how success had changed this print purveyor. I last visited its offices (I think in Rivington St.) to pick up a Banksy print of "Weston-Super-Mare" in 2004.

These pictures are from the "Fiesta Resistance" show curated by The Date Farmers from Indio, California (home of the annual Coachella music festival.)

Described as “a Latin American street art showdown” the Date Farmers released a series of limited edition prints for the exhibition and shared the stage with fellow Mexican artists Saner and Smithe. The show ends on December 23rd, 2009.

London at Christmas

I arrived in London on Saturday after an 11-hour overnight flight from LAX. I was greeted by a bright, but chilly London morning and after travelling across town to Kentish Town I was ready to reacquaint myself with north London.

Maurice, an old Bristolian, led the way through Kentish Town to Hampstead Heath and on the high street where we rested, drank mulled wine and beer and ate fish and chips. Ahhh...priceless!

Braving the crowds I ventured into central London on the bus and then walked from Covent Garden into the West End and Soho heading towards New Bond Street to see Vanessa. The crowds were horrendous and exhausting, but luckily the Oyster Card allowed easy hop-on, hop-off of the buses and tubes to help rest my poor, cold feet! ;)
