Stevio...LA LA Lovin' It?

I'm British-born Chinese from Bristol, UK. I’m LA-based. I’m a hip hop aficionado. After 15 years in London I moved to LA to pursue a new career and outlook on life.

Back in the 80s I was a DJ. In the 90s I contributed to the world's first street style exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum. In 2011, I had my first interviews published. Today, I’m keeping busy with music, art, photos and writing.

Massive Attack and the Victoria & Albert, London

Our 3D keeps it going on. And this V&A installation is just one more reason to make a trip to London...'ngland here I come. I've had my Xmas tix booked for ages...can't wait!

The V&A press release says this:

"Robert Del Naja and Neil Davidge have collaborated with Massive's tour designers UVA on an installation in the courtyard of London's V&A Museum. 'Volume' opens on 25th November and runs until the end the end of January".

Ruby Skye club with Sasha

We spent Friday in town as we got ready to go clubbing - Britt's mate Scott Carrelli was warming up for Ja's mate Sasha, who's voted #4 in the DJ world right now! The crew - Ja, Britt, Kev, Jay and I - hung out at the swish Clift Hotel in Union Square before hitting the club. That was a nice spot even though you needed a mortgage to pay the bar tab ;-)

We walked across to Ruby Skye, past the line and into the lift (elevator) to the stage door. That feeling of walking out on stage when you have no business being there is an odd one, but one I'm happy to get accustomised to ;-) Hhaha. Whatta blad! The crowd at Ruby Skye was jumpin' and I love that Mickey Mouse dude! Check him in the photos above.

I fell asleep at a clubbing friend of a friend's house, as you do after some 'Jack In The Box' post-clubbing munchies! There was a hotch-potch of people there: an advertising executive, an industrial engineer...so San Fran, baby!! I was too tired to be polite so I got a cushion and laid back to Zzzzz....As it happens, that bloke whose house it was was ex-NSA...mental, eh?!

Animalistic - Olly and Suzi

I have a habit of reading from the back of the magazine sometimes. Anyway, as I flicked through Men's Vogue US, I see some pictures of a barran, cold terrain, but the two faces showing underneath big parka jackets looked oddly familiar. Oh, it's Olly and Suzi!?

When I worked at Psion in London, this artist duo were one of the projects the company supported. Their mission is to paint animals in their natural habitat which has led to amazing travels across the globe and a body of art and photos that are truly inspiring.

I'm proud to be on the fringes of the the dramatic shark project - the picture above if from that South African trip. This picture featured as part of a Victoria & Albert Museum exhibition in 1997.

Car wash paarrrty!

I got an invite to a car wash party called SUDS. It was hosted by Squeaky E. Clean, aka Sam Speigel, aka Spike Jonze's brother (check his body of work) and Motorola.

Well, I guess I was a SUDS virgin, as I read that SUDS is an annual event and I've never been before (what no invites when I was a hip student vs a boring suit?!) Anyway, what's it all about? Well, the party was car wash-themed, but I think most people forgot after the free beer, skateboarders, graffiti'd car, kissing booth and the Tunnel of Love (see below). Oh, and the weird sci-fi TV helmet. Plain weird.

It was fun, and I got the chance to wear my Wildstyle MA-1 jacket on that cool LA night ;-)

Dasterdly deed...

I was driving to work as usual
last week and I spotted this new hot spot ~ the new construction site on Highland Ave. was bombed in full technicolor. Word! I grabbed my camera to get some shots of this audacious piece of graff near the Hollywood Bowl theatre where Massive played in October.

On the way home I tuned into KLOS FM ~ Led Zeppelin was rocking on the radio as I cruised past the graff piece. Ah, LA, graff, Led Zep...what else is there?!

Borat rules...

Borat raked in $26 million over its opening weekend to top the charts in the US. What a surprise! Ja, Britt and I were some of the fans eager to part with our money to watch Sacha Baron Cohen fake it up in America.

Was it good? You know me...as soon as I sat down I had a little doze, but was conscious enough to see the naked bed wrestling scene which made me laugh so hard I cried trying to catch my breath. It was really ugly. Oh my God!

I heard that Sacha Baron Cohen was nearly arrested during the 'Borat' shoot, and some members of his eight-member crew were locked up. The FBI tagged Cohen and the crew as they traveled across America. Even the Secret Service questioned the filmmakers in Washington, D.C., and state troopers in Louisiana also investigated the Brits. The internet says Cohen stayed in character as Borat everytime he encountered the authorities! Hahaaa!. Murder!

Latest trivia: Borat is banned in Russia!

To the Brits, we've seen Borat on Ali G...I can't wait for Bruno, the fashion dude from Vienna! He's a riot! Check it below! He's too much!

Uh oh...Hip Hop Radar

Most of you know I rarely leave my email alone, but today I was stopped in my tracks just for a moment as I logged into Yahoo!

What's this? Yahoo!'s login avatar dude has suddenly gone B-Boy?! I put on my 'Stop in the name of Hip Hop' hat and am reporting the incident to you all.

May be Yahoo! should make this B-Boy a Korean, not a bespeckled white boy, as it looks like B-Boying is being taken over by Koreans. Check this video.

Oh, and what about this little gem?..ooooh!

But wait, check the Korea vs Japan battle for the UK B-Boy Championship title in 2005. Check out around 2 minutes in. (Psst...Korea went on to battle France and deservedly walked away with the championship.)
